OBJECTIVES:

        1.  Worker will follow oral/visual directions to use chemicals to
            clean machinery and plant area.
        2.  Worker will ask questions to clarify procedures related to
            the use of chemicals in the cleaning.
        3.  Worker will read chemical labels and follow instructions for
            use.
        4.  Worker will label his/her own 5-gallon buckets.


                                CHEMICAL SAFETY

DIALOGUE 1:

LEAD: All chemical mixing is done by the SANITATION I WORKERS. Workers will be told what chemicals to use for what areas AND IN WHAT ORDER the chemicals will be used. WORKER: What should I do? LEAD: You will be told what chemicals to work with. The chemical will be mixed already and will be in a bucket. WORKER: What chemicals do we use? LEAD: We use three kinds of chemicals: SUPER CHLORINE, TUFF-STUFF, and BACTISOL. WORKER: How do I know what bucket to use? LEAD: Look at the labels. WORKER: What else should I know? LEAD: Be sure to WEAR YOUR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING: MASK, GLOVES, AND GOGGLES to prevent injury. Be sure to WATCH FOR OTHER WORKERS in that area so that you DON'T SPLASH ANY CHEMICALS ON THEM. Warn other workers where you are.

You will be told which belts or shakers to clean. Then dip the rag in the bucket and scrub. WORKER: How often do I have to do this? LEAD: We'll let you know. WORKER: Can I climb on the machinery to do it? LEAD: No, don't climb on the machinery. You should be able to do it standing on the ground. WORKER: Do I need any special equipment? LEAD: Use rubber gloves (the same ones that you use in the TRIM ROOM.) You should use goggles.
