SAFETY, SKILLS, AND SCALABILITY
Group14 Technologies is a cutting-edge battery materials manufacturer in Moses Lake. In order to help shape the future of energy storage, their workers require ongoing training and specific certifications for safety and compliance. With support from the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Community Reinvestment Project (CRP), Group 14 recently partnered with SkillSource to provide Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) for 40 employees.
Split into two cohorts of 20, operators completed a two-day Arc Flash Electrical Safety training provided on-site through Certus. This hands-on course certifies workers to safely perform tasks behind electrical panels, work that’s critical to operations. Now, these 40 certified Group14 operators can safely step into expanded maintenance responsibilities, boosting capacity across the company, and ensuring upward mobility prospects for workers.
Group 14’s Training Manager, Bobbie, shared, “This training means more internal capability because now there are more workers on site who are certified to safely do maintenance that would otherwise require contracting licensed electricians. Plus this means real career advancement opportunities for our operators.”
When SkillSource staff visited the training site in Moses Lake, they saw a team eager to learn, fully engaged, and leaning in with smiles. A refresher course will be required annually, but the foundation has been set through this Incumbent Worker Training that includes enhanced safety, stronger skills, and a future-ready team.
