October 8, 2024 – SkillSource invited legislators, directors, and agency partners to tour the WorkSource Center and Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake to meet people who have been served by the successful Economic Security for All (EcSA) initiative and the Community Reinvestment Project. Representatives from the Washington State Office of Equity, the Washington Workforce Association, Employment Security Department, OIC of Washington, and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce as well as SkillSource staff members traveled together on a courtesy bus provided by People for People.
Employers from AAA ReadyMix and Armada Corp in Moses Lake attended with their employees, Jesus, Darlene, and Shayla, as well as Jesica from Columbia Basin Hospital. Employers shared how they rely on SkillSource to find exceptional candidates for on-the-job training. Their employees shared personal stories of overcoming significant obstacles and challenges thanks to the support of attentive and caring staff members, and the services and financial incentives provided through Economic Security for All.
Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake has a high demand for skilled nurses. Tour attendees had the chance to hear from SkillSource participant and EcSA recipient, Charlie Wood, and her supervisor, Jodi. Charlie is a single mom of three and shared the details about how the financial incentive payments through EcSA allowed her to make ends meet enough to complete her education and training. Charlie is now officially a Registered Nurse on the MedSurg team at Samaritan Hospital!
The success of EcSA relies on the dedication of people: those who advocate at a policy level, those who connect with customers at a service level, and the participants themselves who prove, time and again, that when we invest in people, we all win.
