SkillSource was honored to be the Presenting Sponsor of La Terraza de Main Street, a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture in Wenatchee, WA. The Hispanic Business Council hosted the celebration and street market and highlighted many of the diverse, Hispanic-owned small businesses in the valley, from food vendors to candle makers to gift shops and more.
The SkillSource team joined in the fun! Our staff members and booth visitors enjoyed close proximity to the mainstage, dancing along to live musical performances, and watching the colorfully-dressed folk dancers. Booth visitors took the True Colors assessment, a personality quiz to identify career path options, and learned about the resources available for making a transition into the workforce, or upskilling for a better job.
As the Presenting Sponsor, SkillSource took the stage for a few minutes to talk about the work that we do and the resources that are available to individuals and businesses in the community. In particular, for career seekers, there are cash incentives and a new matched savings program that help cover life’s expenses and save for the future while working toward a career pathway, degree or certification. And for businesses which are Hispanic, Black, or Indigenous-owned there are new funding sources available that cover the costs to hire, train, and upskill staff, in addition to small business grants to be rolled out this summer. SkillSource invited La Terraza organizer and host, Mayra Garcia, to share her personal experience with SkillSource and the valuable resources that helped to put her on the successful path she’s on today. Mayra’s story is a remarkable example of dedicated hard work, and of leveraging community support from SkillSource and partners to overcome obstacles and open up a world of possibilities.
Hundreds of attendees came out to enjoy the family-friendly event on the warmest day of the year yet.
