After three long years without meeting face-to-face due to COVID-19, the SkillSource Regional Workforce Board met together with great anticipation in October 2022. The two-day Board Retreat was both energizing and successful as long-time Board members and new Board members alike explored labor and workforce issues facing North Central Washington and examined opportunities and challenges with hope for the future.

The excitement in the room was palpable. Highlights included an address from WA State Representative Keith Goehner and a rousing game of “Workforce Jeopardy!” led by SkillSource CEO, Lisa Romine, and Coordinating Manager, Aaron Parrott.

Presentations were given about the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and the role of local Workforce boards and how they can make a difference in our region and state. The information shared will shape future conversations as the Board looks ahead toward drafting their next regional plan in 2024.

Awards of appreciation were presented to Dave Petersen for nearly four decades of service as the SkillSource Executive Director and to Ken Johnson for his service as past Chair of the Board from 2018 – 2021. New Board members Kyle Niehenke of the Adams County Development Council and Anthony Popelier of Oroville Reman/Reload were welcomed with enthusiasm.

The October meetings were held at SageCliffe Resort, located at the picturesque Cave B Estate Winery.
