When Country Financial in Moses Lake was looking for customer service and marketing support, Cadence, a recent high school graduate, applied for the job. Juli Rasmussen, financial advisor with Country Financial, saw potential with Cadence, but Cadence lacked work maturity and had a skills gap. Juli had past experience with SkillSource helping adults with on-the-job training, so she was familiar with the services and resources available. She recommended that Cadence visit SkillSource for additional training.
Cadence came into SkillSource in Moses Lake and completed a Get Hired 101 workshop and a basic computer training course. Her youth career counselor, Amanda, then helped place her in a work experience opportunity with Country Financial as a receptionist, which gave her the opportunity to hone her work readiness skills while also contributing essential front desk support to the office. SkillSource helped Cadence with funds to pay for her professional attire for her work experience and money for gas to get to work.
When Cadence successfully completed her work experience with Country Financial, she told her youth career counselor that she was interested in becoming a licensed insurance and financial agent. Juli Rasmussen enthusiastically supported this plan, impressed by Cadence’s dedication and growth. SkillSource supported Cadence with financial aid for her insurance training course and materials and then set her up with a paid internship as a Level One Customer Service Assistant. Upon completing her internship, Julie hired Cadence full-time as an Office Assistant for Country Financial. Cadence is scheduled to take her insurance license exam at the end of January, which will offer Cadence even more opportunities for growth and success in the future!
