CULTIVATING A CARING WORKFORCE

Family Resource Home Care (FRHC) in Moses Lake needs skilled employees to meet the community’s caregiving demands. Through targeted training, SkillSource enables people to acquire the specific skills employers like FRHC require, resulting in a workforce that’s equipped to enrich the lives of those they serve.

Facing financial hardship as a single mom and a lack of career direction, Erica Morales found herself stuck in a part-time hotel job. “I was struggling financially and had nowhere to turn,” Erica recalls. She turned to SkillSource.

Recognizing Erica’s inherent caregiving abilities, honed through personal experience with her brother, Career Trainer, Marisa Cairns at SkillSource, guided Erica towards a promising opportunity at FRHC. “When she shared her story about having taken care of her brother as his caregiver, we explored this as an employment option,” Marisa explained.

In addition to career guidance, SkillSource provided essential resources including scrubs, shoes, and gas assistance to get her to her new job. This comprehensive approach ensured Erica could focus on her new role at FRHC.

“Skillsource helped me get confident in what I can offer,” Erica shared. “I’ve grown to have the chance to challenge myself and learn new things… I’ve learned how to care for someone hands on and bring a smile to their face.”

Erica’s dedication and compassion quickly made her a valued member of the FRHC team. “They love her, and her clients love her there,” Marisa Cairns affirmed.

Krystal Deschene also found success through SkillSource’s support. SkillSource provided Krystal with similar resources, including shoes, scrubs, gas support, and car repair, enabling her to thrive in her caregiving role.

SkillSource’s commitment to providing comprehensive support, combined with FRHC’s willingness to invest in targeted training, has created a win-win scenario, and they now have two new skilled and compassionate caregivers on their team. “I feel so blessed for the help I’ve gotten from SkillSource and for the opportunity Family Resource Home Care has given me,” Erica expressed.

To anyone facing similar challenges, Erica shares, “Just don’t give up and try something new. Just dream big.”
