July 2025 – On July 1, the WorkSource Center in Moses Lake came alive with music, conversation, and connection during a well-attended Business After Hours event. Co-hosted by the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, SkillSource, and the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of Washington, the event welcomed more than 75 guests from across the community, including local employers, Chamber members, SkillSource board members and civic leaders like Representative Alex Ybarra.
Attendees were greeted with a passport upon arrival, encouraging them to visit different stations throughout the WorkSource center where staff shared engaging presentations about workforce services available to both career seekers and employers. Presentations highlighted youth services for individuals ages 16–24 (earning a few laughs when Amanda Jordan, Youth Career Training Specialist quipped, “If you’re 24, I still consider you a kid”), along with resources for adults including financial literacy workshops, vocational training, work-based learning, as well as services to help local businesses grow strong teams.
Several local employers who have partnered with SkillSource to provide youth work experiences (WEX), internships, and on-the-job training (OJT) were also in attendance, reinforcing the strong ties between SkillSource and the regional business community.
Live music was provided by SkillSource’s own Bob Meyer, Network Administrator and one-man band, whose crooner-style vocals and musical talents added a special touch to the evening. Guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner catered by Top Gun Concessions and Catering.
The passport activity concluded with a drawing for door prizes donated by local businesses, including a golf outing, a giant horchata jar, a necklace from a local jeweler, and other community-sourced goodies.
Special thanks to the SkillSource and OIC staff who helped organize and host the event, to Debbie Doran-Martinez from the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce, and to everyone who took the time to learn, to connect, and have fun out of the hot sun. Strengthening community connections is more than just fun and games; it’s a foundation that helps us all better serve the needs of our neighbors and community.
