Sevren Carden and his wife started Skwant Tender in Nespelem, Washington in 2020. Skwant means waterfall in the Salish languages, and offers an appropriate sense of relief for the critical service they provide in helping fight wildland fires.
Tenders are specialized trucks that are equipped to deliver essential services, including water supply,
firefighting support, and logistical aid. Skwant Tender has been a reliable and dedicated partner with the community and federal agencies. Thanks to a small business investment grant through the Washington State Department of Commerce, Sevren was able to perform necessary vehicle maintenance, and support employee retention with well-deserved bonuses for workers. This investment ensures that Skwant Tender can compete alongside non-Native contractors, and that their workers are retained and ready to go at the first whisp of smoke or other urgent need.
We are grateful to Sevren, his family, and team at Skwant Tender for their stewardship and dedication in helping fight wildland fires in our beautiful region!
